Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin, a non-profit organization founded in 1999, saves babies' lives by providing prescribed donor human milk (breast milk). Their vision is to be a leader in advancing the use of donor human milk to improve the quality of human life.
MMBA follows strict screening, processing, and testing guidelines to ensure that banked human milk is safe. They select potential donors using a multi-step screening process similar to that used at blood banks. About 1,600 approved milk donors are needed in 2022 to meet MMBA's anticipated demand for donor milk.
Because of that, MMBA's main challenge is recruiting and retaining enough donor moms to meet the demand of premature infants whose health conditions require donor human milk to survive.
Elizabeth Gunto, Office & Communications Associate at MMBA, found Sock Club while searching for gift and giveaway ideas for donors.
“MMBA gives our branded socks to newly approved and retired donor moms,” said Gunto. “Donors receive baby socks when they first become approved to donate and receive matching grown-up socks when they retire.”
According to Elizabeth, these socks serve two goals. “As a gift, the socks let our donor moms know how deeply we appreciate what they do for the vulnerable infants we serve. The socks also work as a communication tool. Donor moms share photos of their matching socks on social media, or just with their mom friends during playdates and daycare pickup, which begins conversations about what donor human milk is and how new moms can help our cause.”
MMBA chose Sock Club over other branded sock companies because of the ease of design and ordering. “During the buying process, everyone at Sock Club was patient, friendly, and helpful,” said Gunto.
“Sock Club is a perfect fit if you're nervous about designing or don't have much experience in creating branded products. Their friendly designers do all the nitty-gritty design work and collaborate with you to find the style you need.”
